Safety Tips
- Ensure all equipment complies with OSHA ladder jack regulations.
- Wear proper PPE: gloves, helmets with chin straps, and non-slip footwear.
- Inspect all equipment for wear and damage before use.
- Stay below OSHA’s height limit of 6 meters for ladder jack setups.
- Keep the distance between ladder jacks below 2.4 meters.
- Avoid standing on overhangs (150mm–300mm maximum allowed).
- Never exceed weight limits of 120kg.
Safety Disclaimer:
Use Ladder Jacks at your own risk.
Failure to comply with safety guidelines may result in injury or
death. Always follow OSHA regulations.
Platform requirements
- OSHA has specific regulations for constructing and using platforms,
particularly under 1926 Subpart L – Scaffolds.
Here’s a summary of key requirements for platforms used in
conjunction with scaffolding, including ladder jacks:
1. General Platform Requirements
- Width of platforms must be within 300mm-380mm.
- Do not join two platforms together in the middle. It could lead to a weak point and collapse.
- Must support the maximum load without defects or compromising safety.
- Don't separate extension ladders and use them as a platform.
2. Platform Assembly for ladder jack
- Platform/plank must be secured to prevent any movement. (N.B VERY
IMPORTANT) - Overlap: When platform/planks overlap, they must extend over the supports by
at least 150mm not more than 300mm (unless secured to prevent
tipping.) - Platforms used on ladder jack scaffolds must not exceed 3m in length.
- Max distance from Ladder Jack to Ladder Jack is 2.4m
- Ladder Jack scaffolding must not exceed 6m in height.
3. Inspections and Maintenance
- NB: Ensure the ladder jack platform is set up correctly, stable, and safe
before use. - Regular Inspections: Platforms and their supporting systems must be inspected regularly to ensure they remain in safe working condition. Damaged components must be replaced or repaired immediately.
